Join
us for this one-hour session where you’ll get great relaxation
tips and some advice on how to deal with the mixed messages about
family formation that seem to bombard us at this time of year. (December)
As parents,
we carefully select the messages that our children are exposed to.
We celebrate what we share. We level the playing field for our children.
We let them know that different is just different, not better or
worse. We teach them that adoption is forever.
So what
happens during the holidays when their school ‘adopts a needy
family’, or forgets to include Ramadan in holiday celebrations?
How do we square the messages that they see in the media that doesn’t
support the way their family was formed or perpetuates stereotypes?
What can parents do to counter-balance these messages at home and
in the community?
In this
session we will discuss:
• The role of institutionalized bias in shaping our perceptions
• Great products to give and get to promote celebration of
culture, race and family formation
• How to soothe ruffled feathers: dealing with the ‘adopt
a family’ for the holidays syndrome
• Take action: write letters, make noise
• What to watch out for—especially for adopted kids
As an
added bonus, we will provide sure-fire stress release strategies
that will help caregivers be emotionally available when they are
most needed…also relaxation techniques for kids and adults
to share.
